Harricana and Telio at Montreal Fashion Week, Part 1

Montreal Fashion week came to a close this past Thursday evening but here is a recap of my favorite shows from the evening, Harricana and the Telio contest.

My 16 year old vegetarian version of myself would hate me today. I love fur- but exceptionally vintage fur. It’s a renewable source and by far the warmest thing that keeps my body warm in the harsh cold elements of our winters. One person who really gives fur a real run for its money, is Mariouche. She is the queen of recycled fur and creates lasting styles that outlive the original styles.

Dress this up or down, you cant go wrong with an elbow length fur coat.Harricana

Note, there are special ear holes (with covers) sewn on into the hood; no conversation will be missed again.

Very unique- a furry military twist. I want it.

Melissa Nepton Fall/Winter 2013 Collection

Attending Melissa Nepton’s show each season is always exciting. Personally, I feel her collections naturally evolve and flow into each season, like a natural progression. You can identify her work without any doubt.

This season, her hot accessory was oversized fur clutch bags {love}, paired with a traditional Melissa Nepton look: flow, structure and oversize. We saw a  play on the swing coat, a fun twist on the poncho, structured harem pants and my favorite, a new kind of turtleneck. Most in thick cozy fabrics, such as jerseys, knits and tweeds.

Melissa’s clothes are the ones you want to live in, go to work in and just plain want to be in.

Insanity Body

I did probably the most rare thing this past January, rather than joining a gym, I cancelled my gym membership. I had been at the same gym for 5 years and I was bored. My boyfriend had told me about these crazy programs P90X, Insanity, Asylum and I decided to take the leap of faith and try Insanity. I ended up LOVING IT. It’s such a great program and though I admit due to some life circumstances I sometimes cant work out every day -sorry Shaun-T- but I do try to follow it as rigorously as possible and I am seing results. I also have so much more energy.

I never thought I would be a person who would be motivated to work out on my own, but the classes are fun; it’s interval training, 2and the workouts at the longest are 40 minutes. I do them right after I get home from work. Like most people, sometimes I’m not motivated to do it but I remember how good I feel when I finish and that is motivation in itself.

Here is a clip of the workout:

You can order your own version here

Let me know how it goes for you, I already have a handful of friends who are on board! Hope you are too! Get ready to dig deep!

Week End in Vermont

Oh how I missed Vermont. Privy to a family home in this beautiful state allows for many weekends away. However, due to an expired passport and freezing cold temperatures, I decided to send in my passport by mail for renewal rather than walk to the passport office and wait in what would probably have been a very long line.

At last I received my new passport and this past weekend, T and I got to get away. Though there was no skiing to be had (ice and no snow) T and I went hiking in the woods, I learned to knit and I made a pear pie. It was so nice to spend time with my parents and see our friends that we rarely get to catch up with in the city.

Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

Wear Sunscreen

I’m listening to 107.7 The End as they count down the 107 songs that helped build their station and Ter and I are rather enjoying our trip down memory lane as we clean up the condo. You can tune in here (at time of publication we’re at song 60). This was a blast from the past, do you remember Everybody’s Free to Wear Sunscreen? Baz Luhrmann’s reading of an essay about some pretty amazing life tips published in 1997 by Mary Schmich for the Chicago Tribune.

12-12-12

The concert for hurricane Sandy relief. I would have loved to be there right now, but I didn’t win tickets and there were no tickets to be found! But luckily it’s being broadcast live so we’ve been watching it all evening and I can’t wait for Chris Martin, Kanye, Paul McCartney and the rumoured Nirvana reunion.

Isn’t this the concert of the century? I love how so many amazing people have come together to help support the relief for the victims of the devastating hurricane. You people make me proud.

Donate to the Robin Hood Relief Fund.

Christmas Decorating

December 11 already. How is your holiday shopping coming a long? I’m nearly done! Got most people checked off my list. I love online shopping and did most of it there (Thanks Amazon!).

This year we were going to buy a small Christmas tree from the market but due to the space we have and the actual amount of time we will be here on Christmas we decided not to get one. Also because my mom came up with a pretty smart solution, Christmas boughs.

Winter Wardrobe

Winter is almost here, the temperatures have really dipped and mentally I am starting to prepare myself for the long cold road ahead of us. Suffice to say, the best way for me to get excited about winter (a side from Christmas baking, skiing and apres ski) I love to have a fabulous and very warm wardrobe that helps me look great when I’m outside!

This year I decided to take a different approach to buying a coat. I was on a budget (bought a new home) and I wanted something REALLY warm and looks really chic. Most “designer names” are warm but they don’t all cut it for the freezing cold days.

So I decided to go somewhere I had never ordered clothes from, landsend.com and bought this:

It’s good for those -30C days! And With the sale Lands’End is having right now (30% and free shipping on some purchases, free shipping was not applicable on my purchase) it came To $72! Amazing deal. It was regularly $179. Also pretty good!

I hope it’s as great as it looks in the picture- you know i’ll report back here!

And Action!

Not too long back I showed off a bridesmaid dress that I planned to wear for an upcoming wedding in Mexico. Well we’re back (hence the lack of posts) and I have a few pictures to show you. I was really pleased with all the fabulous comments I received on the dress!

Here it is:

That’s me, second from the left.
